In the period 4-7 May 2021, the 3rd Natura 2000 seminar for the Mediterranean Biogeographical Region organized by the European Commission takes place in Italy. Related link:https://ec.europa.eu/environment/nature/natura2000/platform/events/third_mediterranean_seminar.htm

This event (seminar) is organized every 3-4 years in Mediterranean cities (2014 Thessaloniki, 2017 Limassol Cyprus).

As part of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process coordinated by the European Commission, these closed expert seminars are considered important milestones in an ongoing process of networking, information sharing and knowledge creation. The knowledge gained at these events helps to ensure progress towards the key objectives of good conservation of animal and plant species and habitat types of high importance for the European Union and directly benefits stakeholders throughout the Mediterranean biogeographical region.

The body of the seminar includes 4 sessions and the Session III Addressing land abandonment in the Mediterranean region was invited by the European Commission to be chaired by the members of the Department Prof. Michalis Vrachnakis and Assoc. Professor Ioannis Kazoglou.
