Invited speaker of the MSc, the Engineer from Glasgow Mr. Athanasios Antyras on the topic:"Wood and its products as a building material and to deal with earthquake disasters".

The speech of Thanasis Andyra BEng,CEng, MIStructE, Member of Institution of Structural Engineers (UK), Member of Engineering Council (UK), Senior Structural Engineer, DRS, Glasgow City Council with topic: "Wood and its products as a material for building and dealing with earthquake disasters".

The event was organized within the course "Innovative Wood Products and Materials » of the Master's Program of the Department of Wood and Furniture Design and Technology, on Friday January 20 in the Department's Auditorium.

Mr. Antyras Athanasios presented the possibilities that wood gives to structural constructions, emphasizing the material's resistance to earthquakes. Then he presented the use of wood in construction in the region of Scotland with the particularities presented by the requirements there. His speech ended with a step-by-step presentation of a wooden modern construction as it is done in Britain.

A number of questions followed which were answered in depth. Apart from the graduate and undergraduate students of the Department, the event was attended by the professor and Director of MSc Dr. Ioannis Papadopoulos, the President of the Department Dr. Antonis Karageorgos, the professor Dr. Michalis Skarvelis, the Professor of Applications Mr. Ioannis Ntintakis MSc, the Professor of Applications Dr. Karagkouni Glykeria and Ms. Rammou Katerina as well as several Engineers of our city. The whole event was organized and coordinated by the Professor of the Department Dr. George Ntalos from the Quality Control Laboratory.
