CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST IN APPLICATIONS FOR THE GRADUATE STUDY PROGRAM "Advanced Design, Technology & Management of Wooden Products" for the Academic Year 2018-19

The Design & Technology Department of Wood & Furniture of the School of Technological Applications of TEI Thessaly, based in Karditsa, organizes for the 4th consecutive year, the independent Master Studies Program (MSc) with the new title of "Advanced Design, Technology & Management of Wooden Products" (MSc  and the three (3) specializations: a) Product Design, b) Technology & Construction and c) Management & Marketing, according to No. 22/5.7.2018 (topic 8o) decision of the Special Composition General Assembly (G.S.E.S.) of the Department of Education, the document no. 102622/Z1/21.6.2018 of the Minister of Education , of Research & Religious Affairs regarding the approval of its re-establishment and the written provisions.

Accepted to MSc become: a) University graduates, graduates of the Department of Wood & Furniture Design & Technology or a related specialty, b) Graduates of Polytechnic Schools, Graduates of Positive Sciences, Finance, Management, Marketing, c) Graduates of other University Departments with relevant relevance in the subject of the above-mentioned MSc, which are decided by the competent committee for the selection of postgraduate students, d) Graduates of universities abroad, in a relevant specialty, after presenting the equivalence of their degree from the competent body.

Registrations at MSc take place on the second 15th of September 2018, while the courses will start at the beginning of October 2018 and will take place in the building facilities of the Department of Design & Technology of Wood & Furniture in Karditsa, in the Greek language. The course schedule is implemented every Friday (afternoon) and Saturday (morning), in order to facilitate working students who are far away from Karditsa.

The MSc is offered for full or part-time study. The duration of studies is defined in three (3) academic semesters for full-time students and five (5) academic semesters for part-time students. The 3rd and 5th semesters, respectively, are offered for the preparation of the postgraduate diploma thesis. In order to obtain the Postgraduate Diploma, it is necessary to attend and pass an examination in ten (10) courses and then to prepare the Postgraduate Thesis.

The maximum number of students who will be admitted to this program for the 2018-19 academic year is thirty (30).

Those interested are invited to send expressions of interest from the publication of this call for expressions of interest and until August 31, 2018 by email to the address msc.wfdt@teithessaly.gr, fully completed Expression of Interest Application which is available on the official website of the P.M.S. http://msc.wfdt.teithessaly.gr.

Also, those interested must submit during this period to the Secretariat of the MSc of the Department of Design & Wood & Furniture Technology of the TEI of Thessaly (V. Griva 11, 43100 – Karditsa) in person or send a registered envelope with the following supporting documents:

  1. Photocopy of identity.
  2. Complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae, which will include information on the candidates' studies, scientific and professional activity.
  3. Copies of degrees and transcripts (or Diploma Supplements) or a declaration that they are expected to graduate 10 days before the start of classes.
  4. Certificate of recognition and parity from the DOATAP (for those coming from Universities abroad).
  5. Copies of certificates of knowledge of foreign languages.
  6. Evidence of professional, educational experience and scientific activity in general (if any).
  7. Letters of recommendation (if any).
  8. Four (4) ID photos

The Application for Expression of Interest should also be submitted in paper form together with the envelope of the above supporting documents.

The evaluation of the candidates for Master's Students at the MSc will be based on the overall score (on a scale of 1 – 100) which will be obtained in relation to the following criteria (the weighting factor of each criterion is shown in parentheses): a) the general grade of the degree/diploma with a minimum score "Very Good" (30%), b) the level of knowledge of the foreign language (10%), c) the publications in scientific journals, announcements at scientific conferences (5%), d) the possession of other Master's Degrees (5% ), e) relevant professional experience (10%), f) letters of recommendation (10%) and g) the interview (30%). Candidates with the highest overall grade are admitted to the PMS. Exceptionally and only in the event that the required number of admitted students (up to 30) has not been filled, candidates with a general degree grade of "Good" may be accepted, according to a documented decision of the General Assembly.

The Selection Committee will invite to an interview - oral examination those of the candidates who meet the formal and substantive requirements during the month of September 2018.

The MSc is self-financed and the total tuition fees are €2,800 per student for all three (3) semesters of study, which are paid in installments in two (2) equal installments, in September and January of each academic year.

It is noted that two (2) scholarships of excellence are given in each semester (1th & 2th) to the students who accumulate the highest marks in the respective courses . Scholarships are given in special cases by companies in the sector.

Additionally, as provided by the provision of Article 35 "Free tuition - scholarships" of Law 4485/2017, 30% of the total number of admitted students are exempted from tuition fees based on economic and social criteria.
